VanDusen Grass

I was in VanDusen Gardens for the first time in months yesterday. A few years ago a friend commissioned me to chronicle a year in VanDusen and I miss those visits. Much has changed. A downpour cut my photo time short but I managed to find this. It is a kind of prairie grass. Like me it is far from its native environment.

Jan Friesen

This entry is dedicated to my sister-in-law, Jan Friesen (nee Dryburgh), who passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010. She was a prairie girl who showed compassion and a sense of justice in her life and true grit and humor in her last days. She liked this song. She is missed.

Leo Mol Sculptures In Assiniboine Park

I remember seeing Leo Mol statues in the Winnipeg Art Gallery. I used to hang out there (their exhibitions and Swiss Onion Soup were great cures for a hangover) before I moved to Vancouver. If anyone doesn't know the real story behind the return of the Leo Mol sculpture, stolen on Canada Day, call me.
